Occupational Templates

Occupational Templates Version 1.2
February 24, 2015

Occupational templates are dependent on a character's primary culture. In most cases, players should not select templates from other cultures unless there is a compelling in-game rationale.

Most of these templates are based upon the assumption that an average human is a 50 point character. Various lenses can be applied to emulate different levels of experience within a profession, or different specialties.

* Multiplied for self-control number; see Basic Set p. 120.
† Military Rank and Duty reflect admission to military service. This makes attributes or secondary characteristics lower than those above, most physical disadvantages, mental disadvantages not listed here, and Social Stigma (Criminal Record or Minor) "taboo" without GM permission.
‡ Deep Sleeper and Light Sleeper are mutually exclusive – pick one.
§ Lifting ST is technically exotic, but soldiers lug heavy kit often enough for this to be believable.

Lenses

The Illiterate and Officer templates can be combined with one of the experience-orientated templates but the Green, Veteran, and Elite templates are mutually exclusive.

Illiterate (-3 points): Most soldiers are illiterate, giving them 3 more points of advantages and/or primary, secondary, or background skills. Most use these points to acquire the Warrior of Yelm lens.

Warrior of Yelm (3 points): Add Religious Rank 1 (Yelm) [5] and Duty (to temple of Yelm, ≤6) [-2]. Add the following spirit magic spells to the list of available Background Skills: Befuddle, Coordination, Detect Enemies, Disruption, Extinguish, Farsee, Firearrow, Fireblade, Heal, Ignite, Light, Lightwall, Mindspeech, Mobility, Multimissle, Slow, and Speedart.

Green (-20 points): Reduce all primary skills to only 2 points each (lowers Soldier by 2 and other primary skills by 1 each); select only two secondary skills (at 1 point each) instead of three (at 2 points each) from the list of optional secondary skills.

Veteran (+20 points): Add 8 more points of primary skills, 6 more points of secondary or background skills, and 6 points in Feint (Shield), Feint (Shortsword), Retain Weapon (Shortsword), Retain Weapon (Spear), and Targeted Attack (Shortsword Thrust/Vitals), all Hard techniques.

Elite (+40 points): Add 10 more points in advantages, 12 more points of primary skills, 10 more points of secondary or background skills, and 8 points in Feint (Shield), Feint (Shortsword), Retain Weapon (Shortsword), Retain Weapon (Spear), and Targeted Attack (Shortsword Thrust/Vitals), all Hard techniques.

Officer (+30 points): Add IQ +1 [20]; Military Rank 1 [5]; Administration (A) IQ [2]-11; Leadership (A) IQ [2]-11; Savoir-Faire (Military) (E) IQ+1 [2]-12; Tactics (H) IQ-1 [2]-10; and literacy in the character's native language. • Add Strategy (H) IQ-1 [2]-10 to optional secondary skill choices; increase Duty (To Imperial Legion; 15 or less) [15] for a net cost of 5 points. For higher ranking officers, pay 10 points per additional level of Military Rank; 5 points for the increased military rank plus 5 points in skills per level.
